Aesthetic Harmony of Past and Present, Warmth and Coolness, Curves and Lines
My work began with a fascination for the simple and understated beauty of traditional Korean furniture. Over time, however, my focus has expanded beyond mere reproduction to embrace the broader realm of Korean aesthetics.
Walking through the cityscape of Seoul, I often encounter traditional architectural elements—graceful eaves and curved roof tiles—emerging between towering modern buildings. These moments awaken my senses to the coexistence of past and present, revealing a layered urban landscape where time and beauty accumulate together.
The Coexistence Series emerged from this perception, offering a sculptural interpretation of the harmony between tradition and modernity.
By reimagining the soft curves of ancient palaces and the sharp lines of contemporary architecture, the series seeks to express an aesthetic balance born from contrasting forms.
Through a combination of natural wood and metal, each work embodies the warm texture of traditional structures and the cool sensibility of modern materials.
Tradition and modernity, flexibility and rigidity, temporal depth and present-day perception converge into a unified form, creating a new sculptural equilibrium.
This series is not merely a depiction of the "old," but rather a narrative of a living tradition—constantly evolving as it meets the present.
Just like the ever-layered scenery of Seoul, these works aim to reflect a harmonious coexistence of different eras, materials, and sensibilities within a singular aesthetic experience.
